Turntheignition  keytoLOCK/OFF.
Removethekeyandtakeitwithyou.Ifyoucan
leavethevehiclewiththeignition   keyinyourhand,
thevehicleisinP(Park).
Itcanbedangerous  togetoutofthevehicleifthe
shiftleverisnotfullyinP(Park)withtheparking
brakefirmlyset.Thevehiclecanroll.Ifyouhave
lefttheenginerunning,  thevehiclecanmove
suddenly.Youorotherscouldbeinjured.    Tobe
surethevehiclewillnotmove,evenwhenyouare
onfairlylevelground,usethestepsthatfollow.
Ifyouarepullingatrailer,seeTowingaTraileron
page 5‑26.
ConsoleShiftLever
Ifthevehicleisequipped   withaconsoleshiftlever,use
thisprocedure toshiftthevehicleintoP(Park):

Holdthebrakepedaldown.
MovetheshiftleverintoP(Park)bypushingthe
leverallthewaytowardthefrontofthevehicleand
thentotheleft.

Whilekeepingthebrakepedalapplied,   setthe
parkingbrake.SeeParkingBrake   on page 3‑30
formoreinformation.
Ifthevehiclehasasteering   columnshiftlever,usethis
procedure toshiftthevehicleintoP(Park):
