DaytimeRunningLamps(DRL)
Whenautomatic lighting isonanditisbrightenough
outside, theregularlampsgooff,andtheDRLtakes
over.Ifthevehicleisstartedinadarkgarage,the
automatic headlamp systemcomesonimmediately.
Onceyouleavethegarage,itwilltakeapproximately
oneminutefortheautomatic headlampsystemto
changetoDRLifthereislightoutside. Duringthat
delay,theinstrument panelclustermaynotbeasbright
asusual.Makesuretheinstrument panelbrightness
knobisinthefullbrightposition. SeeInstrument Panel
Brightness onpage4‑30.
DaytimeRunningLamps(DRL)canmakeiteasierfor
otherstoseethefrontofyourvehicleduringtheday.
Fullyfunctional daytimerunninglampsarerequired on
allvehicles firstsoldinCanada.
TheDRLsystemmakestheturnsignallampscomeon
whenthefollowing conditions aremet:

Itisstilldaylight andtheignitionison.
Theexterior lampcontrolisintheoffposition.
Thetransmission isnotinP(Park)
(UnitedStatesonly).
Turningonautomatic lighting ortheheadlamps will
deactivate theDRL.Iftheparkinglampsorthefog
lampswereturnedoninstead, theDRLwillstill
deactivate.

Thelightsensoriscoveredornotdetecting light.

ToidlethevehiclewiththeDRLoffatnight,turnoff
automatic lighting andshiftthetransmission into
P(Park).PlacingthevehicleinP(Park)disablesthe
DRL.TheDRLwillstayoffuntilthevehicleisshifted
outofP(Park).
WhenDRLareon,nootherexterior lampssuchasthe
parkinglamps,taillamps, etc.willbeonwhentheDRL
arebeingused.Theinstrument panelwillnotbelitup
either.
TodrivethevehiclewiththeDRLoff,turnoffautomatic
lighting andmanually turnontheparkinglampsorfog
lamps,ifthevehiclehasthem.
Whenautomatic lighting isonanditisdarkenough
outside, theturnsignallampsturnoffandnormal
low-beam headlampoperation occurs.
Theregularheadlampsystemshouldbeturnedon
whenneeded.
