seat(A)provides restraint
withtheseatingsurface
againstthebackof
theinfant.
Ayoungchild'shipbonesarestillsosmallthat
thevehicle's regularsafetybeltmaynotremain
lowonthehipbones,asitshould.Instead,     itmay
settleuparoundthechild'sabdomen.   Inacrash,
thebeltwouldapplyforceonabodyareathatis
unprotected byanybonystructure.  Thisalone
couldcauseseriousorfatalinjuries.   Toreducethe
riskofseriousorfatalinjuries   duringacrash,
youngchildren shouldalwaysbesecuredin
appropriate childrestraints.
Theharnesssystemholdstheinfantinplaceand,ina
crash,actstokeeptheinfantpositioned    intherestraint.
Aforward-facing child
seat(B)provides restraint
forthechild'sbodywith
theharness.
