Topreventtorquelock,settheparkingbrakeandthen
shiftintoP(Park).Tofindouthow,see“Shifting Into
Park”inthissection.
Iftorquelockdoesoccur,yourvehiclemayneedtobe
pusheduphillbyanothervehicletorelievetheparking
pawlpressure, soyoucanshiftoutofP(Park).
{WARNING:
Itcanbedangerous toleavethevehiclewiththe
enginerunning. Thevehiclecouldmovesuddenly
iftheshiftleverisnotfullyinP(Park)withthe
parkingbrakefirmlyset.And,ifyouleavethe
vehiclewiththeenginerunning, itcouldoverheat
andevencatchfire.Youorotherscouldbe
injured. Donotleavethevehiclewiththeengine
running.

Thisvehiclehasanelectronic shiftlockreleasesystem.
Theshiftlockreleaseisdesignedto:

Preventignition keyremovalunlesstheshiftlever
isinP(Park)

Preventmovementoftheshiftleveroutof
P(Park),unlesstheignition isinON/RUNor
ACC/ACCESSORYandtheregularbrakepedal
isapplied.
Ifyouhavetoleavethevehiclewiththeenginerunning,
besureyourvehicleisinP(Park)andtheparking
brakeisfirmlysetbeforeyouleaveit.SeeParking

Theshiftlockisalwaysfunctional exceptinthecaseof
aanuncharged orlowvoltage(lessthan9volt)battery.
TorqueLock
Ifthevehiclehasanuncharged batteryorabatterywith
lowvoltage,trycharging orjumpstarting thebattery.

Torquelockiswhentheweightofthevehicleputstoo
muchforceontheparkingpawlinthetransmission.
Thishappenswhenparkingonahillandshifting the
transmission intoP(Park)isnotdoneproperly and
thenitisdifficult toshiftoutofP(Park).
