Thebattery canbedischarged atidleiftheelectrical
loadsareveryhigh.Thisistrueforallvehicles. Thisis
becausethegenerator (alternator) maynotbespinning
fastenoughatidletoproduceallthepowerthatis
neededforveryhighelectrical loads.
InadvertentPowerBatterySaver
Thisfeatureisdesignedtoprotectyourvehicle's battery
againstdrainage fromtheinterior lamps,trunklamp,
gloveboxlamp,orthegaragedooropener.Whenthe
ignition isturnedoff,thepowertothesefeatures will
automatically turnoffafter10minutes.Powerwillbe
restored foranadditional 10minutesifanydoorortrunk
isopened,orthecourtesy lampswitchisturnedon.
Ahighelectrical loadoccurswhenseveralofthe
following areon,suchas:headlamps, highbeams,fog
lamps,rearwindowdefogger,climatecontrolfanathigh
speed,heatedseats,enginecoolingfans,trailerloads,
andloadspluggedintoaccessory poweroutlets.
BatteryRun-DownProtection
EPMworkstopreventexcessive discharge ofthe
battery.Itdoesthisbybalancing thegenerator's output
andthevehicle's electrical needs.Itcanincrease
engineidlespeedtogenerate morepower,whenever
needed.Itcantemporarily reducethepowerdemands
ofsomeaccessories.
Thisfeaturehelpspreventthebatteryfrombeing
drained, iftheinterior courtesy lamps,reading/map
lamps,visorvanitylampsortrunklampareaccidentally
lefton.Ifanyoftheselampsarelefton,they
automatically turnoffafter10minutes,iftheignition is
off.Thelampswillnotcomebackonagainuntiloneof
thefollowing occurs:
Normally,theseactionsoccurinstepsorlevels,
withoutbeingnoticeable. Inrarecasesatthehighest
levelsofcorrective action,thisactionmaybenoticeable
tothedriver.Ifso,aDriverInformation Center(DIC)
messagemightbedisplayed, suchasBATTERY
SAVERACTIVE,BATTERYVOLTAGELOW,or
LOWBATTERY.Ifthismessageisdisplayed, itis
recommended thatthedriverreducetheelectrical
loadsasmuchaspossible. SeeDICWarningsand
