The au tom atic transaxle console-m ounted
gearshift will lock only when you tu rn the key
to LOCK. When the gearshift is in any gear
position bu t P (Park), the ignition key cannot be
tu rned to LOCK or be rem oved from the
steering colu mn.
If you have a manu al transaxle, you must push
the key in while tu rning to the LOCK position
in ord er to rem ove the key.
LOCK is the only position that allow s you to
rem ove the key. The LOCK featu re help s to
protect you r vehicle from theft.
OFF (if equ ipped) allow s you to shu t off the
engine and all accessories withou t locking the
steering wheel.
ACC (accessory) allow s som e of you r vehicle’s
electrical accessories such as the rad io and the
wind shield wipers to operate while the engine is
not ru nning.
ON allow s you to test you r vehicle’s warning
lights (excep t the brake system warning light) to
make sure they work before you start the
engine. (The brake system warning light will
rem ain lit if the parking brake is set or if there
is a problem with the brake system .) The key
retu rns to the ON position once the engine is
started and rem ains in this position while the
engine ru ns.
START cranks the engine. Release the key once
the engine starts so that you do not dam age the
starter. The key shou ld retu rn to ON when you
release it. The START position also allow s you
to test the brake system warning light.
