Leave the engine coolant in all year. Make sure
that the coolant will not freeze at the
tem peratu re level in which you drive during
winter months. Keep an engine coolant in you r
engine that has a protection rating of at least
-20˚F
(-29˚C), or whatever protection rating is
ap prop riate for the climate in which you live.
You may ad d water by itself only in an
emergency, bu t you shou ld rep lace it with a
50/
50 mixtu re as soon as possible.
Have you r dealer check the engine cooling
system for leaks if you have to ad d a qu art
(liter) of engine coolant more than once a month.
Checking Hoses
Insp ect all engine and heater system hoses for
deterioration, leaks and loose clam ps before
ad ding or rep lacing engine coolant. Make
whatever rep airs or rep lacem ents are necessary
using Motorcraft parts or their equ ivalents.

Wash er Fluid
The wind shield washer reservoir is located in
the engine com partm ent.
RWARN ING
Do not put windshield wash er flu id in the
contain er for the engin e coolan t.
Use specially form ulated wind shield washer
fluid rather than plain water, becau se specially
form ulated washer fluids contain ad ditives that
dissolve road grim e. For safety reasons, washer
fluids containing an ap prop riate antifreeze such
as methanol shou ld be used in freezing weather
