If you r shou lder belts stop working after a
collision, the fuel pump shu t-off switch may
have been triggered . Minor parking lot bu mping
and severe road impacts (such as potholes) may
trigger the switch even when there is no
ap parent bod y dam age. In many instances, you
might not even know that the switch has been
triggered . The shu t-off switch cuts pow er to the
motors that move the shou lder belts in ad dition
to stop ping the flow of fuel to the engine. To

If you r shou lder belts are not working prop erly,
get you r vehicle serviced as soon as possible.
If the fuel pump shu t-off switch is not the cau se
for the shou lder belt not moving, have the
system serviced by a qu alified technician as soon
as possible.
RWARN ING
If the shoulder belt is released from the
emergen cy release buckle, store the ton gue
end away from the seat track s. Failu re to
do this may resu lt in the seat belt bein g
cut or torn when the seat is adjusted
forw ard or back. Any damaged shoulder
belt must be rep laced .

While in motion, the com bination lap and

How ever, if you brake hard , tu rn hard , or if
you r vehicle receives an impact of 5 mph
(8
km / h) or more, the lap and shou lder belt
locks and help s red uce you r forw ard movem ent.
The retractor can be mad e to lock by jerking on
the belt.
