Prep arin g to Change the Tire

Make sure that you r vehicle will not move
or roll. If you have an au tom atic transaxle,
put the gearshift in P (Park). If you have a
manu al transaxle, put the gearshift in 1
(First). Set the parking brake and block the
wheel that is diagonally opposite the tire
that you are changing.
When one of the front wheels is off the grou nd ,
the transaxle alone will not prevent the vehicle
from moving or slip ping off the jack, even if the
vehicle is in P (Au tom atic) or 1 (Manu al). To
prevent the vehicle from moving when you
change one of the front tires, put a block behind
the wheel that is diagonally opposite the tire.
RWARN ING
If the veh icle slip s off the jack , you or
som eon e else could be seriou sly injured .

Get ou t the spare tire and jack.
Remove any optional wheel covers or center
cap s covering the lug nu ts by gently prying
with the tap ered end of the lug wrench.

Loosen the wheel lug nu ts one-half tu rn
each, bu t do not rem ove them until the tire
is raised off the grou nd . You shou ld pull up
on the hand le rather than push to develop
maxim um force to loosen wheel lug nu ts.
Rem ovin g and Rep lacin g the Tire

Place the scissors-typ e jack und er the sid e of
the vehicle and ad just the jack height with
the jack hand le. The jack shou ld fit und er
the sid e sill. There are small notches in the
seam to ind icate the prop er position for the
jack.
