How the Air Bag Supplem ental Restrain t
System Operates
The Air Bag Supplem ental Restraint System
consists of the Driver and Passenger air bags,
impact sensors, a system diagnostic mod ule, a
read iness light and tone, and the electrical
wiring which connects the components. The
diagnostic mod ule monitors its ow n internal
circu its and the supplem ental air bag electrical
system read iness, inclu ding crash sensors, the
system wiring, the air bag read iness light, air
bag backu p pow er, and the supplem ental air bag
ignitors.
The driver air bag is in the center of the steering
wheel. The front passenger seat air bag is
located in the center section of the instru ment
panel led ge above the glove com partm ent. Both
air bags are designed to stay ou t of sight until
they are activated .
