Several sou rces of static are norm al cond itions
on AM frequ encies. These can be cau sed by
pow er lines, electric fences, traffic lights and
thu nd erstorm s.
Another recep tion phenom enon is Stron g Sign al
Cap ture and Overload . This can occur when
listening to a weak station and when passing
another broad cast tow er. The close station may
cap tu re the more distant station, althou gh the
displayed frequ ency does not change. While
passing the tow er, the station may switch back
and forth a few tim es before retu rning to the
original station.
When several broad cast tow ers are present
(com mon in metrop olitan areas) several stations
may overload the receiver, resu lting in
consid erable station changing, mixing and
distortion.
Au tom atic gain control circu itry for both AM
and FM band s has been incorp orated into this
system to red uce strong signal cap tu re and
overload .
All About Rad io Freq uencies
Not all frequ encies will be assigned to a given
area. This rad io will tu ne to each of these
frequ encies using manu al tune and no fine
tu ning is necessary as rad io stations may not use
other frequ encies.
Some FM rad io stations ad vertise a
“rou nd ed-off” frequ ency which is not the
frequ ency they actu ally broad cast on. For
exam ple, a rad io station that is assigned a
frequ ency of 98.7 MH z may call itself “Rad io 99”
even thou gh 99.0 MH z is not an allow able FM
broad cast frequ ency.
