Und er norm al circu mstances, you do not need to
check the fluid level of the transaxle, since you r
vehicle does not use up transaxle fluid. Refer to
the Maintenance Schedule and Record booklet for
rep lacem ent intervals. How ever, if the transaxle
is not working prop erly — for instance, the
transaxle may slip or shift slow ly, or you may
notice som e sign of fluid leakage — the fluid
level shou ld be checked .
NOTE: If the veh icle has been operated for an
exten ded period at high speed s, driven
in city traffic durin g hot weath er, or
has been pullin g a trailer, the veh icle
should be turned off for about 30
minutes to allow the flu id to cool
before checking.
Checking the Autom atic Tran saxle Fluid
It is preferable to check the transaxle fluid level
at norm al operating tem peratu re after
ap proxim ately 20 miles (32 km ) of driving.
With the vehicle on a level surface and the brake
pedal fully ap plied , start the engine and move
the gearshift selector throu gh all of the gears.
Allow sufficient tim e for each position to engage.
Securely latch the gearshift selector in the P
(Park) position. Fully set the parking brake and
leave the engine ru nning.
Wip e off the dipstick cap and pull the dipstick
out. Wip e the ind icator end clean. Pu t the
dipstick back into the filler tu be and make sure
it is fully seated . Pu ll the dipstick out and read
the fluid level.
When checking fluid at the norm al operating
tem peratu re, the fluid level shou ld be within the
norm al operating tem peratu re marks on the
