For cru ising, you shou ld upshift at the follow ing
speed s:
Upshift indica tor light (If equipped)
After the engine warm s up, the upshift light will
com e on if you could get better fuel econom y by
shifting to the next higher gear. The vehicle will
not be harm ed if the transaxle is not shifted
when the light com es on, bu t the vehicle will
use more fuel.
The shift ind icator light can be ignored when
you are dow nshifting, on steep hills, using the
engine to ”brake“ the vehicle, or need more
pow er for a difficult acceleration.
Dow nshift ing
When you slow dow n or climb a steep hill,
alw ays dow nshift before the engine starts to lose
pow er. Dow nshifting red uces the chance of
stalling and gives you r vehicle better acceleration
to increase speed again.
When you drive dow n steep hills, dow nshifting
help s you keep a safe speed and help s prevent
unnecessary wear on the brakes.
