If you must work with the engine ru nning,
avoid wearing loose clothing or jewelry that
could get cau ght in moving parts. Take
ap prop riate precau tions with long hair.

Do not work on a vehicle in an enclosed
space with the engine ru nning, unless you are
sure you have enou gh ventilation.

Never get und er a vehicle while it is
supported only by a jack. If you must work
und er a vehicle, use safety stand s.

Keep all lit cigarettes and other smoking
materials aw ay from the battery and all
fuel-related parts.
If you disconnect the battery, the engine must
“relearn” its idle cond itions before you r vehicle
will drive prop erly. To find ou t how the engine

Working wit h the engine off:

Set the parking brake fully and make sure
that the gearshift is secu rely latched in Park
(au tom atic transaxle) or First (manu al
transaxle).

Remove the key from the ignition after you
tu rn the engine off.
Block the wheels. This will prevent you r
vehicle from moving unexp ected ly.
