If the driver does not fasten the lap belt before
the ignition key is tu rned to ON , the chim e will
sou nd for four (4) to eight (8) second s. The
safety belt warning ind icator lam p in the
instru ment cluster will also illuminate for one to
tw o minu tes. In the unlikely event the shou lder
belt shou ld stall before it reaches the B-pillar, the
ind icator light will flash continu ously until the
shou lder belt is in its locked position at the
B-pillar. If the ind icator lam p rem ains
illuminated for more than one minu te, check to
be sure that both shou lder belts are latched to
the emergency release bu ckle. If the ind icator
lam p rem ains illuminated with both front seat
shou lder belts latched to the emergency release
bu ckles, refer to the section titled What To Do If
Your Shoulder Belt Does Not Engage Properly
before driving the vehicle.
Use the shou lder belt on the outsid e shou lder
only. Never wear the shou lder belt und er the
arm . Never swing it arou nd you r neck over the
insid e shou lder. Never use a single belt for more
than one person. Failu re to follow these
precau tions could increase the risk and / or
severity of inju ry in a collision.
When the ignition is in any position and the
door is opened , the shou lder belt will move
forw ard to the A-p illar. This will allow am ple
room for the driver or passenger to exit from
the vehicle. DO NOT use the belt as an assist
hand le when entering or exiting the vehicle. The
door shou ld not be opened while the vehicle is
in motion.
