STARTING AND OPERATING
NOTE:
The transm ission will downshift from Overd rive to Drive
if the accelerator pedal is fully depressed at vehicle
speed s above approxim ately 35 mph (56 km/ h).

If the vehicle is started in extrem ely cold tem peratu res,
the transm ission may not shift into Overd rive. It will
how ever, autom atically select the most desirable gear
for operation at this tem peratu re. Norm al operation
will resu me when the transm ission fluid tem peratu re
has risen to a suitable level.
When To Use “TO W/H AUL” Mode
When driving in hilly areas, tow ing a trailer, carrying a
heavy load , etc., and frequ ent transm ission shifting oc-
curs, press the “TOW/ HAUL” button. This will improve
perform ance and red uce the potential for transm ission
overheating or failu re due to excessive shifting. When
operating in “TOW/ HAUL” mode, the transm ission will
shift to 3rd gear.

If the transm ission tem peratu re gets extrem ely hot, the
transm ission will autom atically select the most desir-
able gear for operation at this tem peratu re. If the
transm ission tem peratu re becom es hot enou gh, the
“Transm ission Temperatu re Warning Light” may illu-
minate, and the transm ission may downshift out of
Overd rive until the transm ission cools down. After a
cool down, the transm ission will resu me norm al op-
eration.
NOTE: “TOW/ HAUL” mode locks out Overd rive.
