Freq uency of Fluid Change
Und er norm al operating cond itions, the fluid installed at
the factory will give satisfactory lubrication for the life of
the vehicle. Fluid changes are not necessary unless the
fluid becom es contam inated with water. Change the fluid
immediately if contam inated with water.
Fluid Level Check
Check the fluid level by rem oving the fill plug. The fluid
level shou ld be betw een the bottom of the fill hole and a
point not more than 3/ 16” (4.76 mm) below the bottom of
the hole.
NOTE: Be sure to follow the “trailer tow, snow plow,
heavy load , taxi, police, commercial service, off-road ,
desert, or sustained high speed s during hot weather”
maintenance interval if applicable.
Add fluid, if necessary, to maintain the prop er level.
Lubrican t Selection
Use only manu factu rer’s recom mend ed manu al trans-
mission fluid. Refer to “Fluids, Lubricants, and Genu ine
Parts” in this section for the correct fluid typ e.
Transfer Case
Fluid Level Check
The fluid level shou ld be to the bottom edge of the fill
hole (1) when the vehicle is in a level position.
