The TPM S has been optim ized for the origin al
equipment tires and wheels. TPM S pressu res and
warn ing have been estab lish ed for the tire size
equipped on you r veh icle. Undesirab le system
operation or sen sor damage may resu lt when us-
ing rep lacem ent equipment that is not of the sam e
size, typ e, and/or style. Afterm ark et wheels can
cause sen sor damage. Do not use afterm ark et tire
sealan ts or balan ce bead s if you r veh icle is
equipped with a TPM S, as damage to the sen sors
may resu lt.
−
For exam ple, you r vehicle may have a recom -
mend ed cold (parked for more than 3 hou rs) placard
pressu re of 33 psi (227 kPa). If the ambient tem pera-
ture is 68°F (20°C) and the measu red tire pressu re is
28
psi (193 kPa), a tem peratu re drop to 20°F (-7°C)
5
will decrease the tire pressu re to approxim ately 24
psi (165 kPa). This tire pressu re is sufficiently low
enou gh to turn ON the Tire Pressu re Monitoring
Telltale light. Driving the vehicle may cause the tire
pressu re to rise to approxim ately 28 psi (193 kPa),
but the Tire Pressu re Monitoring Telltale Light will
still be ON. In this situ ation, the Tire Pressu re
Monitoring Telltale Light will turn OFF only after
the tires are inflated to the vehicle’s recom mend ed
cold placard pressu re valu e.
After inspectin g or adjustin g the tire pressu re,
alw ays rein stall the valve stem cap. This will
preven t moistu re and dirt from enterin g the valve
stem , which could damage the Tire Pressu re Moni-
torin g Sen sor.
