THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE

Do not run the engine in a closed garage or in confined
areas any longer than need ed to move you r vehicle in or
out of the area.
It is extrem ely dangerou s to rid e in a cargo area,
insid e or outsid e of a veh icle. In a collision , peop le
rid ing in these areas are more lik ely to be seriou sly
injured or killed .
If it is necessary to sit in a parked vehicle with the engine
running, adjust you r heating or cooling controls to force
outsid e air into the vehicle. Set the blow er at high speed .
Do not allow peop le to rid e in any area of you r
veh icle that is not equipped with seats and seat belts.
The best protection against carbon monoxid e entry into
the vehicle bod y is a prop erly maintained engine exhau st
system .
Be sure everyon e in you r veh icle is in a seat and
usin g a seat belt prop erly.
Whenever a change is noticed in the sou nd of the exhau st
system , when exhau st fumes can be detected insid e the
vehicle, or when the und ersid e or rear of the vehicle is
damaged , have a competent mechanic insp ect the com-
plete exhau st system and adjacent bod y areas for broken,
damaged , deteriorated , or mispositioned parts. Open
seam s or loose connections could perm it exhau st fumes
to seep into the passenger compartm ent. In addition,
Lock Your Vehicle
Alw ays rem ove the keys from the ignition and lock all
doors when leaving the vehicle unattend ed, even in you r
own drivew ay or garage. Try to park you r vehicle in a
well-lit area and never invite theft by leaving articles of
valu e exposed .
