The ignition switch must be in the ON position for a
shift to take place and for the position ind icator lights
to be operable. If the ignition switch is not in the ON
position, the shift will not take place and no position
ind icator lights will be on or flashing.
Shiftin g Out of Neutral (N)
Perform the follow ing proced ure to prep are you r vehicle
for norm al usage:

Bring the vehicle to a complete stop .
Reconnect the battery negative cable.
Flashing Neutral (N) position ind icator light ind icates
that shift requ irem ents have not been met.
3. Place the ignition switch in the LOCK position (if it
has been moved or the engine has been started ).
CAUTIO N!
4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, but do not 5
start the engine.
Damage to the tran smission may occur if the tran s-
mission is shifted into “P” (Park ) with the tran sfer
case in Neutral (N) and the engin e RUN NING. With
the tran sfer case in Neutral (N), ensure that the
engin e is OFF prior to shiftin g the tran smission into
“P” (Park ).

Dep ress the brake pedal.
6.
Shift the transm ission into “N” (Neutral) (autom atic
transm ission), or depress the clutch pedal (manu al trans-
mission).
7.
Use the point of a ballp oint pen or similar object to
depress the recessed transfer case Neutral (N) button.
Release the Neutral (N) button after the Neutral (N)
