heel drive position (2WD) or the 4-wheel drive Auto

The ignition switch must be in the ON position for a
shift to take place and for the position ind icator lights
to be operable. If the ignition switch is not in the ON
position, then the shift will not take place and no
position ind icator lights will be on or flashing.

For added capability when traversing steep grad es,
rou gh terrain, or extrem ely poor traction surfaces, select
the transfer case 4WD Low position. This position locks
the front driveshaft and rear driveshaft together and
forces the front and rear wheels to rotate at the sam e
speed while multiplying engine torqu e.

The Selec-Trac II active on-d emand transfer case pro-
vid es four positions:
Use the transfer case Neutral (N) position for recreational
tow ing only. Refer to “Recreational Towing” in this
section for specific proced ures on shifting into and out of
Neutral (N).
