Automatic Transmission
Fluid and Filter Changes
Change the autom atic transm ission fluid and filter at the
intervals show n in the “Maintenance Sched ule” in Sec-
tion 8 of this manu al.
Fluid Level Check
Your vehicle is equ ipped with a capped dipstick tube that
is sealed and it shou ld not be tam pered with. Your
authorized dealer has the prop er tools to ensu re that the
fluid level is set prop erly.
In addition, change the fluid and filter if the transm ission
is disassem bled for any reason.
NOTE: Be sure to follow the “police, taxi, fleet, off-road ,
or frequ ent trailer tow ing” maintenance interval if appli-
cable.
CAUTIO N!
Usin g a tran smission flu id oth er than the manufac-
turer’s recom mended flu id may cause deterioration
in tran smission shift quality and/or torq ue converter
shudder. Usin g a tran smission flu id oth er than that
recom mended by the manufactu rer will resu lt in
more freq uent flu id and filter changes. Refer to
“Flu ids, Lubrican ts, and Genuine Parts” in this sec-
tion for the correct flu id typ e.
Special Additives
Autom atic Transm ission Fluid (ATF) is an engineered
prod uct and its perform ance may be impaired by supple- 7
mental additives. Therefore, do not add any fluid addi-
tives to the transm ission. The only excep tion to this
policy is the use of special dyes to aid in detecting fluid
leaks. In addition, avoid using transm ission sealers as
they may adversely affect seals.
