Gross Trailer Weigh t (GTW)
In this section, you will find safety tips and inform ation
on limits to the typ e of tow ing you can reasonably do
with you r vehicle. Before tow ing a trailer, carefu lly
review this inform ation to tow you r load as efficiently
and safely as possible.
The Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) is the weight of the
trailer plus the weight of all cargo, consu mables, and
equ ipment (perm anent or tem porary) load ed in or on the
trailer in its Љload ed and read y for operationЉ cond ition.
The recom mend ed way to measu re GTW is to put you r
fully load ed trailer on a vehicle scale. The entire weight
of the trailer must be supported by the scale.
To maintain warranty coverage, follow the requ irem ents
and recom mend ations in this manu al concerning ve-
hicles used for trailer tow ing.

Common Towing Definitions
The follow ing trailer tow ing related definitions will assist
you in und erstand ing the follow ing inform ation:
If the Gross Trailer Weigh t (GTW) is 3,500 lbs. (1 587
kg) or more, it is mandatory to use a weigh t-
distrib utin g hitch to ensure stab le handlin g of you r
veh icle. If you use a stan dard weigh t- carryin g hitch ,
you could lose control of you r veh icle and cause an
accid ent.
Gross Vehicle Weigh t Ratin g (GVWR)
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is the total
allow able weight of you r vehicle. This inclu des driver,
passengers, cargo, and tongu e weight. The total load
must be limited so that you do not exceed the GVWR.
