The Sid e Impact SRS Sid e Curtain Airb ags are de-
signed to activate only in certain side collisions and
rollover events. When the ORC detects a collision
requ iring the side curtain airbag to inflate, it signals
the inflators on the crash side of the vehicle or both
sides of the vehicle for a rollover event. A quantity of
nontoxic gas is generated to inflate the side curtain
airbag. The inflating side curtain airbag pushes the
outsid e edge of the head liner out of the way and
covers the wind ow. The airbag inflates in abou t 30
millisecond s (abou t one quarter of the time that it
takes to blink you r eyes) with enou gh force to injure
you if you are not belted and seated prop erly, or if
item s are positioned in the area where the side curtain
The front passenger seat assem bly contains critical com-
ponents that affect the front passenger airbag deploy-
ment. Correctly functioning front passenger seat compo-
nents are critical for the Occupant Classification System
(OCS) to prop erly classify the front passenger and calcu-
late the prop er airbag deploym ent. Do not make any
modifications to the front passenger seat components or
assem bly.

(SRS) component or SRS related component or fas-
tener be modified or rep laced with any part excep t
airbag inflates. This especially applies to child ren. The
side curtain airbag is only abou t 31⁄2 inches (9 cm) thick
when it is inflated .
