STARTING AND OPERATING
A Reset featu re allow s the vehicle to be driven to a dealer
for service withou t damaging the transm ission. To reset
the transm ission, perform the follow ing proced ure:
MANUAL TRANSMISSION — IF EQUIPPED
Clutch Interlocking Ignition System
Vehicles equ ipped with a manu al transm ission are
equ ipped with a clutch interlock safety featu re. The
clutch pedal must be fully depressed to allow cranking of
the engine.

Stop the vehicle.
Move the selector lever to the “P” (Park) position.
Turn off the engine; be sure to turn the key to the

withou t pressing the clutch pedal when in 4-wheel drive
low range. The 4 LOW ind icator light will illuminate
when the transfer case is in 4-wheel drive low range.

Wait approxim ately 10 second s, and then restart the
engine.

Move the selector lever to the desired gear range.
If the problem is no longer detected , the transm ission will
retu rn to norm al operation. If the problem persists, “P”
(Park), “R” (Reverse), and “N” (Neutral) will continu e to
operate. Only Second gear range will operate in the “D”
(Drive) position. Have the transm ission checked at you r
authorized dealer as soon as possible.
