NOTE: If the O/D OFF indicator ligh t is
flash ing on and off rep eated ly when
the veh icle is started or does not come
on when the O/D OFF switch is
pushed, it mean s that there is a
tran saxle electron ic system malfu nction .
You should contact you r dealer as soon
as possib le or damage to the tran saxle
could occur.
The transaxle will be in the “overd rive on”
mod e when the vehicle is started even if the
O/ D OFF mod e was selected when the vehicle
was last shu t off.
When to use 2 (Second)
Use Second for start-u p on slip pery road s or to
give you more engine braking to slow you r
vehicle on dow ngrad es.
When to use 1 (First )
Use 1 (First) when ad ded engine braking is
desired when descend ing steep hills.
The au tom atic transaxle will shift to the prop er
gear to ascend any grad e withou t any need to
shift to 1 (First).
Do not go faster than 38 mph (61 km / h) in this
gear. You can upshift from 1 (First) to D
(Overd rive) at any speed .
P (Park )
Alw ays com e to a com plete stop before you shift
into P (Park). Make sure that the gearshift is
secu rely latched in P (Park). This locks the
transaxle and prevents the front wheels from
rotating.
If you r vehicle has a console mounted gearshift,
the gearshift ind icator in the cluster is
illuminated in P (Park) only when the gearshift
bu tton is released .
