To improve the fit of lap and shou lder belts on
child ren who have outgrow n child safety seats,
Ford recom mend s use of a belt-p ositioning
booster seat that is labelled as conform ing to all
Federal motor vehicle safety stand ard s.
Belt-positioning booster seats raise the child and
provid e a shorter, firm er seating cushion that
encou rages safer seating postu re and better fit of
lap and shou lder belts on the child . A
belt-p ositioning booster shou ld be used if the
shou lder belt rests in front of the child ’s face or
neck, or if the lap belt does not fit snu gly on
both thighs, or if the thighs are too short to let
the child sit all the way back on the seat cushion
when the low er legs hang over the edge of the
seat cushion. You may wish to discuss the
specific need s of you r child with you r
pediatrician.

Lap belts and the lap belt portion of lap and
shou lder belts shou ld alw ays be worn snu gly
and below the hip s, tou ching the child ’s thighs.
