Using the hit ch
Your vehicle uses a load carrying hitch. Because
this typ e of hitch places the tongu e load of a
trailer on the rear wheels of you r vehicle, you
must distribu te the load in you r trailer so that
10
to 15% of the total weight of the trailer is on
the tongu e.
Tie dow n the load so that it does not shift and
change the weight on the hitch. This will
prevent dam age to you r vehicle and make you r
vehicle easier to hand le.
Connect ing the sa fety cha ins
Alw ays attach the trailer’s safety chains to you r
vehicle. They help protect you r trailer if the
hitch breaks.
To connect the trailer’s safety chains:
1.
Cross the chains und er the trailer tongu e
and attach them to you r vehicle’s fram e or
hook retainers. Never attach the safety
chains to you r vehicle’s bu mper. The bu mper
is not designed to bear the weight of a
trailer.
2.
Make sure that you leave enou gh slack in
the chains to allow you to tu rn corners.
If you use a rental trailer, follow the instru ctions
that the rental agency gives you .
