available throu gh Ford or Lincoln/ Mercu ry
dealers.
Because tow ing a trailer puts extra strain on
you r vehicle, you must follow certain
precau tions for you r safety and the good of you r
vehicle:

Stay within the load limits when you tow .
(See Knowing Your Vehicle’s Load Limits.)

Carefu lly and thorou ghly prep are you r
vehicle for tow ing, making sure to use the
right equ ipment and to attach it prop erly.
(See Preparing to Tow in this chap ter.)

Use extra cau tion when driving you r vehicle
while you tow . (See Driving while you tow in
this chap ter.)
❑
Service you r vehicle more frequ ently if you
tow a trailer. (See Servicing your vehicle if you
tow in this chap ter.)
Do not tow a trailer until you r vehicle has been
driven at least 500 miles (800 km ).
