Safety Seats for Child ren
Use a safety seat that is recom mend ed for the
size and weight of the child . Alw ays follow the
safety seat manu factu rer’s instru ctions when
installing and using the safety seat.
Ford recom mend s the use of a child safety seat
having a top tether strap . Install the child safety
seat in a seating position which is cap able of
provid ing a tether anchorage. For more
inform ation on top tether strap s see Attaching
Safety Seats With Tether Straps in this chap ter.
When installing a child safety seat, be sure to
use the correct safety belt bu ckle for that seating
position, and make sure the tongu e is secu rely
fastened in the bu ckle. For a shou lder/ lap belt
com bination with a slid ing tongu e, make sure
the retractor is in the au tom atic locking mod e.
Your vehicle is equ ipped with a right front
passenger air bag. Air bags deploy with great
force, faster than the blink of an eye. Front
passengers, esp ecially child ren and small ad ults,
must never sit on the front edge of the seat,
stand near the glove com partm ent of the
instru ment panel, or lean over near the air bag
cover when the vehicle is moving. All occupants
shou ld sit with their backs against the seatback,
move the seat to the most rearw ard position if
possible and use the safety belts. Child ren
weighing less than 40 lbs. (18 kg) alw ays shou ld
use child or infant seats.

move the passen ger seat as far back from
the instru ment panel as possib le. NEVER
SECURE REAR-FACIN G INFANT SEATS
IN THE FRONT SEAT.
