Drivin g While You Tow
Be esp ecially carefu l when driving while you
tow a trailer. Never drive faster than 45 mph
(70
km / h) when you tow in hilly country on
hot days. Also, anticip ate stop s so that you can
brake grad ually.
When you tow in steep hills, move the
au tom atic transaxle to 1 (First) (vehicles withou t
O/ D OFF switch) or 2 (Second ) (vehicles with
O/ D OFF switch) when descend ing. This will
give more engine braking on dow ngrad es. The
au tom atic transaxle will au tom atically dow nshift
to the prop er gear on upgrad es.
If you tow in Overd rive while rid ing throu gh
hilly country, you r vehicle may frequ ently shift
betw een Overd rive and Third gears. To prevent
you r vehicle from shifting too much, move the
gearshift to D (Drive) (colu mn shift withou t
O/ D OFF switch) or push the O/ D OFF switch
(colu mn or console shift). This will also give
better braking going dow n hills.
If you use the speed control while you are
tow ing on very long, steep grad es, the speed
control may shu t off.
