Never rem ove the pressu re cap while the
engin e is running or hot to avoid person al
injury that can be caused by escap ing
steam or engin e coolan t.

Before you rem ove the cap , tu rn the engine
off and let it cool. Even when the engine is
cool, be carefu l when you rem ove the cap .
When the engine is cold , wrap a thick cloth
arou nd the cap and tu rn it slow ly
cou nterclockw ise to relieve pressu re.

Step back while the pressu re releases.
When you are sure that all the pressu re has
been released , use the cloth to tu rn and
rem ove cap .

Stand aw ay from the reservoir opening. Hot
steam may blow ou t or hot engine coolant
may even splash out.

damage to the engin e coolin g system or
engin e.
To find out how much engine coolant mixtu re
you r vehicle’s coolant system can hold , see Refill
capacities for fluids in the Ind ex.
Add engin e coolan t only to the coolan t
reservoir. If the coolant level is low , ad d to the
reservoir a 50/ 50 mixtu re of water and the typ e
of engine coolant that Ford specifies. You may
ad d water by itself only in an emergency, bu t
you shou ld rep lace it with a 50/ 50 mixtu re as
soon as possible.
