Break ing Your Veh icle In
Your new vehicle goes throu gh an ad justm ent or
break-in period during the first 1,000 miles
(1,600
km ) that you drive it. Du ring the break-in
period , you need to pay carefu l attention to how
you drive you r vehicle.

Avoid sudden stop s. Because you r vehicle
has new brake linings, you shou ld take these
step s:

Watch traffic carefu lly so that you can
anticip ate when to stop .

Begin braking well in ad vance.
Ap ply the brakes grad ually.
The break-in period for new brake linings
lasts for 100 miles (160 km ) of city driving or
1,000
miles (1,600 km ) of highw ay driving.

Use only the typ e of engin e oil that Ford
recom mends. See Engine oil recommendations
in the Ind ex. Do not use special “break-in”
oils.
Safety Labels
There are labels, decals and tags on you r vehicle
to alert you abou t possible hazard s. The signal
word on the label tells you the degree of hazard
and is used in the follow ing ways:

DANGER: Used to ind icate the presence of a
hazard which will cau se severe personal
inju ry or death if the warning is ignored .

WARN ING: Used to ind icate the presence of
a hazard which can cau se severe personal
inju ry or death if the warning is ignored .

CAUTIO N: Used to ind icate the presence of a
hazard which will or can cau se minor
personal inju ry or prop erty dam age if the
warning is ignored .
