Autom otive fuels can cause seriou s injury
or death if misu sed or mish andled .
Gasoline and other au tom otive fuels are
extrem ely flam mable. Turn you r vehicle off and
do not smoke while refu eling you r vehicle. Keep
sparks and other sou rces of ignition aw ay from
fuels.
Au tom otive fuels can be harm ful or fatal if
swallow ed. Never attem pt to sip hon any fuel
by mouth.
If any fuel is swallow ed, call a physician or
poison control center immediately. Do not delay
callin g a physician merely becau se no adverse
effects are noticed at first; the toxic effects of
fuels may not becom e apparen t for many
hours.
If gasoline is swallow ed, do not ind uce
vom iting. If a gasoline-m ethanol blend is
swallow ed, ind uce vom iting und er the direction
of a physician or poison control center.
Gasoline and gasoline blend s may contain small
am ounts of carcinogens, such as benzene.
Long-term exp osu re to unlead ed gasoline vap ors
has cau sed cancer in laboratory anim als.
Fuels can also be harm ful if absorbed throu gh
the skin. Be carefu l not to splash fuel on
you rself or you r clothing. If fuel is splashed on
the skin, prom ptly rem ove contam inated clothing
and wash the skin thorou ghly with soap and
water.
