Do not start you r veh icle in a closed
garage or oth er enclosed area. Never sit in
a stop ped veh icle for more than a short
period of tim e with the engin e running.

Before you start you r vehicle, do the follow ing:

Make sure all occupants in the vehicle
bu ckle their safety belts. See Safety Restraints
in the Ind ex for more details.
Make sure you r head lam ps and other
accessories are tu rned off and the parking
brake is set.
Make sure that the gearshift is in P (Park)
before you tu rn the key.
Before you start you r vehicle, you shou ld test
the warning lights on the instru ment panel to
make sure that they work. Refer to the Warning
Lights and Gauges chap ter.
