Use specially form ulated wind shield washer
fluid rather than plain water, becau se specially
form ulated washer fluids contain ad ditives that
dissolve road grim e. For safety reasons, washer
fluids containing an ap prop riate antifreeze such
as methanol shou ld be used in freezing weather
(tem peratu res below 32˚F [0˚C]). State or local
regu lations on Volatile Organic Com pou nd s
(VOC’s) may restrict use of the most com mon
antifreeze, methanol. Washer fluids containing
non-m ethanol antifreeze agents shou ld be used
only if they provid e cold weather protection
withou t dam aging the vehicle’s paint finish,
wiper blad es, and wind shield washer system .

Checking the washer fluid for the
lift gate (If equipped)
If you r wagon has a rear wind ow wiper, check
the reservoir for its washer fluid regu larly. This
is not the sam e reservoir that you r wind shield
wipers use. The opening for this reservoir is on
the right sid e of the liftgate opening, below the
tail lam p. Refill this reservoir with the sam e
solu tion you use for you r wind shield . To find
out how much washer fluid the reservoir hold s,
see Refill Capacities later in this chap ter.
