Safety Belt Main ten ance
Check the safety belt system s period ically to
make sure that they work prop erly and are not
dam aged .
All safety belt assem blies, inclu ding retractors,
bu ckles, front seat belt bu ckle support assem blies
(slid e bar) (if equ ipped), child safety seat tether
bracket assem blies (if equ ipped), and attaching
hard ware, shou ld be insp ected after any
collision. Ford recom mend s that all safety belt
assem blies used in vehicles involved in a
collision be rep laced . How ever, if the collision
was minor and a qu alified technician find s that
the belts do not show dam age and continu e to
op erate prop erly, they do not need to be
rep laced . Safety belt assem blies not in use
during a collision shou ld also be insp ected and
rep laced if either dam age or improp er operation
is noted .
Clean ing the Safety Belts
Clean the safety belts with any mild soap
solu tion that is recom mend ed for cleaning
upholstery or carp ets. Do not bleach or dye the
belt webbing becau se this may weaken it.
Air Bag Supplem ental Restrain t
System (SRS)
The driver and right front passenger air bags are
Supplem ental Restraint System s (SRS), provid ed
at these seating positions in ad dition to the
lap / shou lder belt, and are designed to
supplem ent the protection provid ed to prop erly
belted occu pants in mod erate to severe frontal
collisions. The supplem ental air bag system does
not provid e restraint to the low er bod y.
