RWARN ING
If the air bag is inflated , THE AIR BAG
WILL NOT FUNCTIO N AGAIN AND
MUST BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. If
the air bag is not rep laced , the unrep aired
area will increase the risk of injury in a
collision .
To ensu re that the air bag system will operate as
intend ed in a crash, the system is equ ipped with
a diagnostic mod ule, which controls a read iness
lam p and a warning tone. The diagnostic
mod ule monitors its ow n circu its, the air bag
electrical system , the air bag read iness light, the
air bag pow er, and the air bag inflators.
The air bag system uses a read iness light on the
instru ment cluster and a tone to ind icate the
cond ition of the system . When you tu rn the
ignition key to the ON position, this light will
illuminate for ap proxim ately six (6) second s and
then tu rn off. This ind icates that the system is
operating norm ally. NOTE: Maintenance of the
air bag system is not requ ired .
A problem with the system is ind icated by one
or more of the follow ing:
❑the read iness light will either flash or stay lit,
❑
or it will not light immediately after ignition
is tu rned on,
❑
or a grou p of five beep s will be heard . The
tone pattern will rep eat period ically until the
problem and light are rep aired .
If any of these things hap pen, have the air bag
system serviced at you r Ford or Lincoln-Mercu ry
dealer immediately. Unless serviced , the air bag
Supplem ental Restraint System may not function
prop erly in the event of a collision.
