To Set the Varian ce
Manual Com pass Calib ration
If the compass appears erratic, inaccu rate or abnorm al,
you may wish to calibrate the compass. Prior to calibrat-
ing the compass make sure the prop er zone is selected .
NOTE: Refer to the “Com pass Variance Map ” in the
follow ing
“Electronic
Vehicle
Inform ation
Center
(EVIC)” section for you r Zone Value.
1.
PARK position.
Start the engine, and leave the transm ission in the

mately ten second s) the CMTC reset button until the
current variance zone nu mber is displayed . To change the
zone, press and release the CMTC reset button to incre-
ment the variance one step . Repeat as necessary, until the
desired variance is achieved .

NOTE: The factory defau lt Zone is 8. During program -
ming, the zone valu e will wrap arou nd from Zone 15 to
Zone 1.

To complete the compass calibration, drive the vehicle
in one or more complete 360 degree circles und er 5 mph
km/ h) in an area free from power lines, large metallic

objects, until the CAL ind icator turns off. The compass
will now function norm ally.
