the instru ment cluster will display transm ission gear
selection as 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 for six-sp eed and 4, 3, 2, 1 for
four-sp eed transm issions.
When parking on a hill, it is important to set the parking
brake before placing the shift lever in PARK, otherw ise
the load on the transm ission locking mechanism may
make it difficult to move the shift lever out of PARK. As
an added precau tion, turn the front wheels tow ard the
curb on a downhill grad e and away from the curb on an
uphill grad e.
Gear Ran ges
DO NOT race the engine when shifting the gear selector
lever from PARK or NEUTRAL positions into another
gear range.
PARK
WARN ING!
Shifting the gear selector lever in PARK supplements the
parking brake by locking the transm ission. The engine
can be started in this gear. Never attem pt to use PARK
while vehicle is in motion. Apply the parking brake when
leaving the vehicle in this gear.
Never use PARK position on an autom atic tran smis-
sion as a substitu te for the park ing brak e. Alw ays
apply park ing brak e fully when park ed to guard
again st veh icle movem ent and possib le injury or
damage.
When parking on a flat surface, place the shift lever in the
PARK position first, and then apply the parking brake.
