COOLING SYSTEM
Coolan t Checks
Check the engine coolant (antifreeze) protection every 12
months (before the onset of freezing weather, where
applicable). If coolant is dirty or rusty in appearance, the
system shou ld be drained , flushed and refilled with fresh
coolant. Check the front of the A/ C cond enser for any
accumulation of bugs, leaves, etc. If dirty, clean by gently
spraying water from a gard en hose vertically down the
face of the cond enser.

When work ing near the rad iator coolin g fan , dis-
connect the fan motor lead or turn the ign ition
switch to the OFF position . The fan is tem peratu re
controlled and can start at anytim e the ign ition
switch is in the ON position .
You or oth ers can be badly burned by hot coolan t
or steam from you r rad iator. If you see or hear
steam coming from under the hood , don’t open the
hood until the rad iator has had tim e to cool. Never
try to open a coolin g system pressu re cap when the
rad iator is hot.
Check the coolant recovery bottle tubing for brittle rub-
ber, cracking, tears, cuts and tightness of the connection
at the bottle and rad iator. Insp ect the entire system for
leaks.
With the engine at norm al operating tem peratu re (but
not running), check the cooling system pressu re cap for
prop er vacu um sealing by draining a small amount of
coolant from the rad iator drain cock. If the cap is sealing
prop erly, the engine coolant (antifreeze) will begin to
