STARTING AND OPERATING
Improp er alignm ent will not cause vehicle vibration.
Vibration may be a resu lt of tire and wheel out-of-
balance. Prop er balancing will red uce vibration and
avoid tire cupping and spotty wear.
CAUTIO N!
To avoid damage to your vehicle or tires, observe the follow ing
precau tion s:
•
Because of restricted chain clearan ce between tires and other
suspension components, it is importan t that only chains in
good condition are used. Broken chains can cause seriou s
damage. Stop the vehicle immediately if noise occurs that
could indicate chain break age. Remove the damaged parts of
the chain before further use.
TIRE CHAINS
Use only compact chains, or other traction aid s that meet
SAE typ e “Class S” specifications. Chains must be the
prop er size for the vehicle, as recom mend ed by the chain
manu factu rer.
•
•
Do not exceed 45 mph (70 km/h).
Drive cautiou sly and avoid severe turns and large bumps,
especially with a load ed vehicle.
NOTE: Do not use tire chains on a compact spare tire.
•
Install chains on the fron t wheels as tigh tly as possib le and
then retigh ten after drivin g about one—half mile (0.8 km).
•
•
Do not drive for prolon ged period on dry pavem ent.
Observe the tire chain manufactu rer’s instru ction s on the
method of installation , operatin g speed, and condition s for
use. Always use the lower suggested operatin g speed of the
chain manufactu rer if differen t from the speed recommended
by the manufactu rer.
