INSTALLATION OF RADIO TRANSMITTING
EQUIPMENT
Special design consid erations are incorp orated into this
vehicle’s electronic system to provid e immunity to rad io
frequ ency signals. Mobile two-way rad ios and telep hone
equ ipment must be installed prop erly by trained person-
nel. The follow ing must be observed during installation.
The antenna cable shou ld be as short as practical and
rou ted away from the vehicle wiring when possible. Use
only fully shield ed coaxial cable.
Carefu lly match the antenna and cable to the rad io to
ensu re a low Stand ing Wave Ratio (SWR).
The positive power connection shou ld be made directly
to the battery and fused as close to the battery as possible.
The negative power connection shou ld be made to bod y
sheet metal adjacent to the negative battery connection.
This connection shou ld not be fused .
Mobile rad io equ ipment with output power greater than
norm al may requ ire special precau tions.
All installations shou ld be checked for possible interfer-
ence betw een the communications equ ipment and the
vehicle’s electronic system s.
Antennas for two-way rad ios shou ld be mounted on the
roof or the rear area of the vehicle. Care shou ld be used
in mounting antennas with magnet bases. Magnets may
affect the accuracy or operation of the compass on
vehicles so equ ipped.
