THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING  YOUR VEHICLE
moderate   to  severe   side  collisions.   In  certain   typ es of
collisions,  both  the  front   and  side  airbags  may   be trig-
gered .  However,   even  in  collisions   where   the   airbags
work,  you  need   the  seat  belts  to keep  you   in the  right
position  for  the  airbags  to protect  you  prop erly.
WARN ING!
If you r  veh icle is  equipped   with   left  and  righ t Sid e
Airb ag  Inflatab  le   Curtain    (SABIC),   do   not   stack
luggage   or oth er cargo  up  high   enough   to block  the
location   of   the   SABIC.   The  area   where    the   sid e
curtain  airb ag is  located  should  rem ain  free from  any
obstru ction s.
Here  are som e simple step s you  can take  to minim ize the
risk  of harm  from  a deploying   airbag.
1.
Child ren   12 years   old  and  you nger   should   alw ays
rid e buckled   up  in  a rear  seat.
Airbags  inflate  in moderate  to high  speed  impacts.  Along
with  seat belts and  pretensioners,   front airbags  work  with
the  knee bolsters  to  provid e improved   protection   for the
driver  and  front  passenger.   Side  airbags  also  work  with
seat  belts to  improve  occupant   protection.
Infants  in rear-facing  child  restraints  shou ld NEVER  rid e
in the front  seat of a vehicle with  a passenger  front  airbag.
An airbag  deploym ent  can cause severe  injury  or death  to
infants  in  that position.
Child ren that  are not  big enou gh to  wear  the vehicle  seat
belt  prop erly (see  Section  on Child  Restraints   shou ld be
secured   in   the   rear   seat   in  child   restraints    or   belt-
positioning   booster  seats. Old er child ren  who do  not use

side airbag  on  the crash  side of  the vehicle  is triggered  in
