ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS)
WARN ING!
ABS provid es increased vehicle stability and brake per-
form ance und er most braking cond itions. The system
autom atically “pumps” the brakes during severe braking
cond itions to prevent wheel lock-u p.
•
Rid ing the brak es can lead to brak e failu re and
possib ly an accid ent. Drivin g with you r foot rest-
ing or rid ing on the brak e pedal can resu lt in
abnorm ally high brak e tem peratu res, excessive
lin ing wear, and possib le brak e damage. You
wouldn’t have you r full brak ing capacity in an
emergen cy.
ABS is activated during braking und er certain road or
stop ping cond itions. ABS-inducing cond itions can in-
clude ice, snow, gravel, bumps, railroad tracks, loose
debris, or panic stop s.
•
Drivin g a veh icle with the brak e ligh t on is dan-
gerou s. A sign ifican t decrease in brak ing perfor-
mance or veh icle stab ility durin g brak ing may
occur. It will tak e you lon ger to stop the veh icle or
will make you r veh icle hard er to control. You
could have an accid ent. Have the veh icle checked
immediately.
You may experience the follow ing when the brake system
goes into Anti-lock:
•
The ABS motor running (it may continu e to run for a
short time after the stop ).
•
•
A clicking sou nd of solenoid valves.
