WARN ING!
Before movin g the gear selector lever out of PARK,
you must turn the ign ition from LOCK/O FF to ON so
the steerin g wheel and gear selector lever are re-
leased . Otherw ise, damage to the steerin g colu mn or
gear selector lever could resu lt.
Do not coast in NEUTRAL and never turn off the
ign ition to coast down a hill. These are unsafe
practices that lim it you r resp onse to changin g traffic
or road condition s. You migh t lose control of the
veh icle and have an accid ent.
REVERSE
DRIVE — Six-Sp eed Transmission
Use REVERSE for moving the vehicle rearw ard . Shift into
REVERSE only after the vehicle has come to a complete
stop .
This range shou ld be used for most city and highw ay
driving. It provid es the smoothest upshifts, downshifts,
and best fuel econom y. However, use the Electronic
Range Select (ERS) mode by moving the lever — / + and
select the “5” range when frequ ent transm ission shifting
occurs while using the DRIVE range, such as when
operating the vehicle und er heavy load ing cond itions,
(i.e., in hilly terrain, traveling into strong head wind s or
while tow ing heavy trailers). Und er these cond itions,
NEUTRAL
Shift the gear selector lever into this gear only after the
vehicle has come to a complete stop . The engine may be
started in this range.
