Tread Wear Indicators
When stu ck in mud, sand , snow, or ice cond itions, DO
NOT spin you r vehicle’s wheels faster than 30 mph (48
km/ h) or continu ously for longer than 30 second s with-
out stop ping when you are stu ck.
Tread wear indicators are in the original equipment tires to
help you in determining when your tires should be replaced.
Refer to “Freeing A Stuck Vehicle” in Section 6 of this
manu al for additional inform ation.

Fast spinning tires can be dangerou s. Forces gen -
erated by excessive wheel speed s may cause tire
damage or failu re. A tire could explod e and injure
som eon e.
DO NOT spin your vehicle’s wheels faster than 30
mph (48 km/h) or for more than 30 secon ds contin u-
ously when you are stuck, and don’t let anyone near
a spinning wheel, no matter what the speed.
These ind icators are molded into the bottom of the tread
grooves. They will appear as band s when the tread depth
becom es 1/ 16 in (2 mm). When the tread is worn to the
tread wear ind icators, the tire shou ld be rep laced .
