Automatic locking mode
In this operating mod e, the shou lder belt retractor will be
au tom atically locked and will rem ain locked when the
com bination lap / shou lder safety belt is bu ckled , and does not
allow the occupant freed om of movem ent. This mod e provid es
the follow ing:

A tight lap / shou lder belt on the occupant.
Child safety seat installation.
RWARN ING
Rear-facin g infan t seats should never be placed in the
fron t seats.
RWARN ING
This mode must be used when installin g a child safety
seat on the fron t passen ger seat and rear outboard seats
where dual lock ing retractors are provid ed.
To switch the retractor from the emergency locking mod e to the
au tom atic locking mod e, perform the follow ing step s:

Buckle the lap / shou lder com bination belt.
Grasp the shou lder portion of the belt and pull dow nw ard
until all of the belt is extracted and , when allow ed to retract,
a clicking sou nd is heard . At this tim e, the belt retractor is in
the au tom atic locking mod e (child restraint mod e).

A clicking sou nd will continu e to be heard as the belt is
allow ed to retract. This ind icates that the retractor is in the
au tom atic locking mod e.
