Driving while you tow
Be esp ecially carefu l when driving while you tow a trailer.
Never drive faster than 45 mph (70 km / h) when you tow in
hilly country on hot days. Also, anticip ate stop s so that you can
brake grad ually.
If you use the speed control while you are tow ing on very long,
steep grad es, the speed control may shu t off.
When tow ing a trailer in hilly terrain, with a vehicle equ ipped
with a 4R44E/ 4R55E/ 4R70W transm ission, you may wish to
operate in O/ D OFF (3rd gear) rather than j (Overd rive). This
will elim inate excessive dow nshifting and upshifting to maintain
speed . Shift back to j (Overd rive) whenever practical for
optim um pow ertrain cooling and fuel econom y. This can be
accom plished by pushing in the transm ission control switch
which is located on the end of the gearshift lever.
When descend ing a steep grad e with a trailer, operate in Drive
rather than Overd rive. If ad ditional braking is need ed, shift the
au tom atic transm ission gearshift into 2 (Second ) gear or 1 (Low ).
