Safety Seats for Children
Use a safety seat that is recom mend ed for the size and weight
of the child . Alw ays follow the safety seat manu factu rer’s
instru ctions when installing and using a safety seat.
When possible, put child ren in the rear seat of you r vehicle.
Accid ent statistics suggest that child ren are safer when prop erly
restrained in the rear seating positions than in the front seating
positions.
Ford recom mend s the use of a child safety seat having a top
tether strap . Install the child safety seat in a seating position
which is cap able of provid ing a tether anchorage. For more
inform ation on top tether strap s see you r Ford or
Lincoln-Mercu ry dealer.
When installing a child safety seat, be sure to use the correct
safety belt bu ckle for that seating position, and make sure the
tongu e is secu rely fastened in the bu ckle.
Child ren weighing less than 40 lb. (18 kg) shou ld use child or
infant seats. Forw ard facing child seats must have the passenger
seat moved as far back from the instru ment panel as possible.

All child restraint system s are designed to be secu red in vehicle
seats by lap belts or by the lap portion of a lap -shou lder belt.
